Lake Valley Heirloom Hyssop Seeds

Hyssop is a flowering shrub-like perennial herb that grows 1-2′, commonly grown for its flavorful leaves. With hardy growth, Hyssop develops violet-blue flowers spiked on deep-green slender stems that give off a bright aroma. Hyssop is in the mint family and makes a vibrant ornamental herb that attracts pollinators and is a good candidate for container gardening.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. 8-10 weeks before transplanting outside. Transplant when your nighttime temperatures are above 50°F.
  • When to Sow Outside: 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when the soil temperature is at least 60°F, ideally 65°–85°F. Successive Sowings: We recommend 3 or 4 successive sowings every 3 weeks after initial sowing.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds ¼ inch deep
  • Seed Spacing: A group of 2 seeds every 18-24 inches
  • Row Spacing: 6-12 inches
  • Thinning: When 2" tall, thin to 1 every 12 inches
  • Days to Germinate: 14-21 days
  • Days to Maturity: 75-80 days

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: Harvest fresh as needed for use in salads, soups or other dishes. To dry, cut stems in small bunches and hang them upside down in a dark, well-ventilated area. Fresh or dried leaves can be frozen for later use. Trim back established hyssop plants heavily in spring and again after flowering to encourage bushier plants.
  • Attributes: Good for containers, attracts pollinators

"No matter what I am at Bath for, there are always helpful employees to help me find what I need or tips on how to care for indoor or outdoor plants. They also carry pots, trellises, soil, and interesting plants of all kinds! I was also pleasantly surprised to find compost worms available for purchase without a special preorder. Thank you for being awesome!"
