Characteristics

The Othonna capensis, also known as Ruby Necklace or String of Rubies, is a captivating succulent with cascading stems and unique foliage. The leaves are the main attraction. They are plump and fleshy, resembling little green jellybeans when young. As they mature, they lengthen to about an inch long, with a slight blue-grey tinge and a rounded, "chubby finger" shape. This plant isn't a bush but a creeper with slender stems that grow outwards, reaching up to 2 feet in length. Ideal for hanging baskets!

How to Care for String of Rubies

  • Light: Bright indirect light
  • Water Preferences: Thrives in a warm, dry environment. Allow the soil to dry almost completely before watering again.
  • Special Care/Notes: Very susceptible to overwatering. Avoid roots staying submerged in water in a container with no drainage holes. Place in a brightly lit room, but out of direct sunlight.

To ensure plants are delivered with the most care, we ship plants Monday-Wednesday. Plants purchased after Wednesday or over the weekend will be shipped on the following Monday. Check out our shipping policies for more information. Thank you!
