Characteristics

The Platycerium bifurcatum, also known as a Staghorn Fern, is a distinctive epiphytic species that produces leathery, forked fronds resembling the horns of a stag and are covered in a velvety covering of white hairs.

How to Care for Staghorn Ferns

  • Light: Bright indirect light. Direct light will burn this plant.
  • Water Preferences: This epiphytic plant absorbs water as readily through the leaves as it does the roots and loves to be misted frequently. Keep soil evenly moist. To water your Staghorn fern thoroughly, submerge it in water.
  • Special Care/Notes: The perfect balance of water for this plant might be tricky to find, as it is sensitive to over and underwatering. Once the shield front emerges from the base of the plant, do not, under any circumstances remove it. Even if itโ€™s brown, let another one grow back before removing the old one. Gorgeous plant for the bathroom as it loves moisture!

"One of my favorite places to get plants! The people there are always friendly and helpful. They are pet friendly, so I always bring my dog. She can be a bit much to handle in public, so I don’t take her out often. BUT whenever I go to Bath the people there always help me out with her! Every time I go to Bath I leave happier and with a new plant!"
