Lake Valley Heirloom Perilla Green Shiso Seeds

An absolute must for herb gardens! Also called Japanese basil or beefsteak plant, shiso's incredible flavor can be described as a combination of cinnamon, mint, and clove with overtones of cumin. Primarily used to wrap sushi, shiso leaves smell like lemon balm. Add to salads, or sprinkle on cucumber and fish. 

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • When to Start Inside: 4 to 6 weeks before your average last frost date.
  • When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is 65°–75°F.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds 1/8th inch deep
  • Seed Spacing: A group of 3 seeds every 12 inches
  • Row Spacing: 12 inches
  • Thinning: When 1 inch tall, thin to 1 every 12 inches
  • Days to Germinate: 5–21 days
  • Days to Maturity: 85 days

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: Pick leaves as needed. Both flowers and leaves are edible.
  • Attributes: Heat and drought-tolerant, attracts pollinators, deer resistant, and is excellent for containers.
