Botanical Interests Organic Maxibel Filet Bush Bean Seeds

While most haricot verts (French for "green beans") are harvested in petite form, "Maxibel" is a full length, French style, stringless, filet bean. Beans remain slender until peak picking which is between 6"-8" long and 1/4" wide. Bush beans make for great container planting as they are compact and rarely need staking.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun
  • When to Start Inside: Not recommended.
  • When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when the soil temperature is at least 65°F, ideally 70°–85°F. Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 80 days before your average first fall frost date. NOTE: In very hot summer areas, skip sowing as high heat approaches; temperatures consistently above 90°F will prevent beans from forming.
  • Seed Depth: 1 inch
  • Seed Spacing: 1 seed every 4 inches
  • Row Spacing: 24 inches
  • Thinning: Not required
  • Days to Germinate: 6–12 days
  • Days to Maturity: 50

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: Filet style beans should be harvested daily, or every other day, when beans are between 1/8" and 1/4" wide and about 6"-8" long, not as wide as a normal snap bean. Hold the stem with one hand, and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches, which will continue to produce. At season's end, plants are great compost material if they are disease-free.
  • Special Care: Rotate bean (and others in the Fabaceae family) growing location so they are not grown in the same area more than once every 3 years. Bush beans can also be grown in containers but may need to be fertilized if the growing medium lacks nutrients.
  • Hardiness: Frost-sensitive annual

"I brought my girls here to have a homeschool lesson about botany for their science study! We had one of their employees, Evan, walk us around the center and take us into the greenhouses. I felt like he went above and beyond to help my girls with what they need to know and it was great! My kids had a great time and he knew what he was talking about. Thanks again Evan!"

"Wow! What a wonderful first time to Bath!! The staff is beautiful!! Professional, knowledgeable and so willing to help and inform. The selection of indoor plants (this is what I came in for) is spectacular and the care they give their plants is exceptional. Hundreds of plants and in my time at Bath saw not one brown leaf. No dying plants and no unhealthy plants which tells me that they are meticulous in their care. I would like to give a shout out to “The Sheriff.” I believe her real name is Martha! Unbelievable human being. They went over and above to help me find the perfect oversized houseplant. They made it a beautiful experience and not just a buying experience. Sheriff!! You made me a happy man, customer and future customer of Bath!! ✌🏼❤️"

"Every time I've gone into this place has been a lovely time. Their plant selection is terrific, with beautiful sculptures and even turtles hanging out! Took a class with Evan today and made bookmarks, I plan on coming back to take more classes."
