Bayou Belle Sweet Potato - 1 Tuber

Sweet potato plants serve double duty. First, in the garden, on a trellis, or in a container, sweet potatoes are a beautiful plant or serve as an effective ground cover. Secondly, they provide tubers in the fall to make delicious comfort food to enjoy as the weather cools. Hardy to zones 8-10. Bayou Bell sweet potatoes are perfect for baking!

  • Light: Full sun
  • Planting instructions: Plant in well-draining soil in full sun. Does not perform well in heavy clay soils and needs loose soil.  For best results, follow the planting instructions on the back of the package.
  • Mature Height: 24-36 inches tall, vines can grow very long
  • Additional Notes: Sweet potatoes can withstand drought but they will produce less, so make sure you water them during the hottest parts of the summer. After harvesting, brush the soil from the potatoes. Do not wash them. Sweet potatoes bruise easily and can suffer quickly when handled in storage. It's best not to pick through them too often. If you have bruised or damaged sweet potatoes after harvest, eat those first.
