Botanical Interests Organic Heirloom Rocket Arugula Seeds

Arugula's flavor has been described as peppery, mustardy, and hot with a hint of tartness. It adds such an exciting, interesting flavor to salads. Most often eaten raw in salads but also steamed or added raw to many other dishes such as pizza. Tender baby greens are ready in 20–28 days, at 2–4 inches tall. Also a good container variety.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade
  • When to Start Inside: Not recommended.
  • When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date, when the soil temperature is at least 40°F; ideally 50°–70°F. Successive Sowings: Every 3 weeks until 4 to 6 weeks before your average first fall frost date.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds ¼ inch deep.
  • Seed Spacing: A group of 6 seeds every 6 inches
  • Thinning: When ½ inch tall, thin to 1 every 6 inches
  • Days to Germinate: 10–15 days
  • Days to Maturity: 20–45 days

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: For the mildest, best-tasting baby greens, pick leaves when 2–4 inches long. Pick individually or cut off the plant at ground level. For the best flavor, harvest before the plant begins to flower, unless you plan to eat the flowers.
  • Variety Information: 2–6 inch soft, green leaves are deeply pinnately lobed, shaped much like an elongated oak leaf, with hints of red in the veins. Flavor can be described as rich and peppery. Edible flowers are creamy-white with purple veins.
  • Attributes: Edible flowers, good for containers

"Very cute shop. Huge variety of plants and associated esoterica. They have the biggest monstera I've ever seen growing in their turtle pond!!"

- Mark Dougherty, May 2024

"No matter what I am at Bath for, there are always helpful employees to help me find what I need or tips on how to care for indoor or outdoor plants. They also carry pots, trellises, soil, and interesting plants of all kinds! I was also pleasantly surprised to find compost worms available for purchase without a special preorder. Thank you for being awesome!"
