Characteristics

The Strelitzia nicolai, also known as the White Bird of Paradise or Giant Bird of Paradise, is a truly magnificent plant that brings a touch of the tropics indoors or graces landscapes in warm climates. Unlike the vibrant orange and blue of the Bird of Paradise, the Strelitzia nicolai boasts a more elegant color scheme. The flower has a dark purplish-black bract that opens to reveal a white or faintly pink crown (sepals) and a contrasting blue "tongue" formed by the petals.

How to Care for White Bird of Paradise

  • Light: Thrives in full size to partial shade. Indoors, place it near a south facing window for optimal light.
  • Water Preferences: Water deeply when the top inch of soil dries out. Avoid overwatering, but ensure consistent moisture during the growing season.
  • Special Care/Notes: While tolerates average household humidity, it appreciates occasional misting, especially in dry climates.

To ensure plants are delivered with the most care, we ship plants Monday-Wednesday. Plants purchased after Wednesday or over the weekend will be shipped on the following Monday. Check out our shipping policies for more information. Thank you!

"Bath's warranty on trees is for real and ended up being a great deal for us. Recently back in and guidance was calming, helpful, and kind concerning recent projects."

- Erica Waters, April 2023

"One of my favorite places to get plants! The people there are always friendly and helpful. They are pet friendly, so I always bring my dog. She can be a bit much to handle in public, so I don’t take her out often. BUT whenever I go to Bath the people there always help me out with her! Every time I go to Bath I leave happier and with a new plant!"

- Gaia Bachar, April 2024

"Love this place always helpful."

- Marjorie Lucht, April 2024

"Love this place. I now have a lovely birdbath in my yard. Friendly staff and they are helpful too."
