Characteristics

Polka dot plants, also known as Hypoestes phyllostachya, are known for their vibrant foliage. These cheerful houseplants come in a variety of colors, with spots of pink, red, white, or even light green contrasting against dark green leaves. They typically grow as a bushy plant with oval-shaped, fuzzy leaves.

How to Care for Polka Dot Plants

  • Light: Thrives in bright indirect light and cannot tolerate direct light.
  • Water Preferences: Allow the soil to dry out slightly in between watering. Water approximately every 7-10 days depending on what kind of light the plant receives.
  • Special Care/Notes: Prefers loose, well-draining soil that can hold moisture well. Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes rootbound. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current pot.

*Ships within Colorado only* To ensure plants are delivered with the most care, we ship plants Monday-Wednesday. Plants purchased after Wednesday or over the weekend will be shipped on the following Monday. Check out our shipping policies for more information. Thank you!

"Every time I've gone into this place has been a lovely time. Their plant selection is terrific, with beautiful sculptures and even turtles hanging out! Took a class with Evan today and made bookmarks, I plan on coming back to take more classes."

- Alex Dolce, June 2025

"Beautiful nursery filled with the most beautiful selection and variety of anything you can think of! Trees, flowers, indoor/outdoor plants of every kind you can imagine, a wide variety of fantastic retail products and more! Very great customer service from the staff and available to help with a smile. A bit on the pricier side compared to other nurseries in the area, but also worth the money spent on quality products! Will definitely be back 😊"

- Shawna Carrera, September 2025

"Great selection and helpful staff. A bit crowded but it was Friday afternoon."

- Kim McCargo, May 2024

"Although matching colors were sold out staff assisted with the search to match what a cabbage looper devoured."
