Characteristics
The Crocodile Fern is unlike any other fern due to its leather, broad, strap-like leaves with a heavily textured, puckered, and deeply veined surface that strikingly resembles the skin of a crocodile. These leaves are typically an emerald green with a slightly glossy sheen.
How to Care for Crocodile Ferns
- Light: Indirect medium light. Too much light will cause the plant's leaves to dry out and turn brown.
- Water Preferences: Keep soil evenly and consistently moist. These ferns prefer light, fast-draining soil. Consider amending potting soil with perlite.
- Special Care/Notes: Plants that like ample and consistent moisture need soil that can drain and retain enough moisture to stay moist, but not waterlogged. A top-dressing of bark can help increase humidity around the plant without increasing watering frequency.
