Seed Savers Exchange Stowell's Evergreen Corn Seeds

The leading white sweet corn for home and market gardeners, this drought-tolerant historic variety was introduced in mid-1800s, after years of refining, by Nathaniel Newman Stowell. Ears grow beautifully to 8-9" long, 1-2 ears per stalk, and hold well. Corn is a heavy feeder and does best in well-drained, fertile soil with plenty of water.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full Sun
  • When to Start Inside: Not recommended
  • When to Sow Outside: Sow seeds outdoors 1" deep after danger of frost has passed.
  • Seed Depth: 1 inch
  • Seed Spacing: 4 inches
  • Row Spacing: 36-48 inches
  • Thinning: Thin seedlings to 8” apart.
  • Days to Emerge: 4-21 days
  • Days to Maturity: 80-100 days

Growing Notes:

  • Attributes: For good pollination and full ears, plant in blocks of 3-6 rows instead of one long row. Produces 1-2 ears per stalk.

"What a fun and whimsical nursery. There is something for everyone. It feels like every turn you find another treasure. Pricing is boutique-like but plenty of items on the under $15 side. We went in today for greeting cards and found the perfect cards for my grandma. I've purchased many garden supplies and plants here as well. They always have great quality and variety. The owner is amazing, generous, and community focused."
