Seed Savers Exchange Blacktail Mountain Watermelon Seeds

This variety produces gorgeous green-black round fruits weigh 6-12 pounds. Deep scarlet flesh is super sweet, juicy, and crunchy. Perfect for short season areas; also does well in hot humid climates. Watermelons love heat and prefer sandy or light-textured soils.

Sowing Information: 

  • Light: Full Sun
  • When to Start Inside: 4 weeks before transplanting outdoors.
  • When to Sow Outside: Sow seeds outdoors in 12 inch diameter hills after danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed.
  • Seed Depth: ½ inch
  • Seed Spacing: 6-8 seeds per hill
  • Row Spacing: 12 inches
  • Thinning: Thin to 3-4 plants per hill
  • Days to Emerge: 4-10 days
  • Days to Maturity: 65-75 days

Growing Notes:

  • Attributes: Round fruits grow to 6-12 pounds, Organic, perfect for fresh eating. 
  • Harvesting: Around 60-75 days after planting and flesh is dark green.
