High Mowing Organic Moon & Stars Watermelon Seeds

The Moon and Stars watermelon is a truly captivating heirloom variety, celebrated for its unique appearance and delicious flavor. The dark green rind is adorned with numerous small, yellow "stars" and larger, more prominent "moon" markings, creating a celestial pattern. The flesh is typically a bright, sweet, and juicy red, although yellow-fleshed variations exist.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun
  • When to Start Inside: Start indoors three weeks before last spring frost date. Do not disturb tender roots when transplanting.
  • When to Sow Outside: Start outdoors about two weeks after the last spring frost, when soil has completely warmed.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds ½ inch deep
  • Seed Spacing: 12-18 inches
  • Days to Germinate: 10-14 days
  • Days to Maturity: 95-100 days from transplanting, or 110-115 days if directly sown

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: Ripeness is determined by four methods: when the tendril nearest the fruit is dried and brown; when the ground spot has turned from white to yellow; when the blossom end of fruit becomes soft; and the ubiquitous “thump test”— fruit should sound hollow. Cut fruit cleanly from the vine to avoid stem-end rot.
  • Attributes: Large fruit around 10-15 pounds
