Botanical Interests Smoothie Mix Baby Greens Seeds

How do you make a nutritional powerhouse even more nutritious? Grow it as a baby green! Loaded with vitamins A and C with big boosts of calcium, protein, iron, and fiber. Kale baby greens can be grown indoors at any time of year and are a nutrient-packed way to get your "green fix" in winter. Move containers as needed for best light exposure and temperature. Harvest when 2"–4" tall and enjoy! Sow indoors any time of year!

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Indirect light
  • When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. Sow indoors any time of year, with indoor temperatures 60°-75°F. Successive Sowings: Every 2 weeks for a continual supply. Transplanting baby greens is not recommended because they are so quick to harvest. Transplanting will slow growth and may cause plants to bolt (prematurely flower).
  • When to Sow Outside: 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date, when soil temperature is at least 50°F, ideally 60°–70°F. Successive Sowings: Every 2 weeks until 2 weeks before the first fall frost.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds ⅛-¼ inch deep
  • Seed Spacing: Space seeds ¾ inch apart
  • Thinning: Not required
  • Days to Germinate: 5-10 days
  • Days to Maturity: 25-30 days

Growing Notes:

  • Variety Info: Small, frilly, dark green leaves with reddish-purple veins and stems.
  • Harvesting: When seedlings emerge, the first pair of leaves to show are the cotyledons, which can look very different from the leaves that follow, called "true" leaves. 'Red Russian' kale baby greens are ready to harvest 25 to 30 days after sowing, when they have true leaves at 2"-4". Cool growing temperatures may slow germination and growth. For the freshest and most healthful baby greens, harvest them directly from their growing container as needed by cutting just above the soil line. For more than one harvest (up to 3 before flavor declines) leave about 1/2" of leafy growth on the small plants so they can regenerate.

"Great customer service.  Prices are high, but about the same as everywhere."

"Wow! What a wonderful first time to Bath!! The staff is beautiful!! Professional, knowledgeable and so willing to help and inform. The selection of indoor plants (this is what I came in for) is spectacular and the care they give their plants is exceptional. Hundreds of plants and in my time at Bath saw not one brown leaf. No dying plants and no unhealthy plants which tells me that they are meticulous in their care. I would like to give a shout out to “The Sheriff.” I believe her real name is Martha! Unbelievable human being. They went over and above to help me find the perfect oversized houseplant. They made it a beautiful experience and not just a buying experience. Sheriff!! You made me a happy man, customer and future customer of Bath!! ✌🏼❤️"

"I stopped by Bath Garden Center and Nursery today and was unexpectedly surprised. This family-owned garden center is fantastic. The variety of outdoor and indoor plants is shocking. They also sell pots for every taste. I got two indoor plants and went to the cashier. Lauren was excellent at taking me to an available cashier and ringing me up. She kindly offered to put my chosen plants into the new pots I bought. I wish this family had more stores across Colorado."
