Botanical Interests Waltham 29 Broccoli Seeds

Broccoli has a long culinary history going back to the Romans. The florets, leaves, and stems are packed with vitamin C and provide calcium, potassium, and iron. The 4"-6", blue-green heads are delicious raw or cooked. 'Waltham 29' grows prolific side shoots and is specially adapted for cold tolerance. Freezes well. Kids will delight in the "little trees" on their plate.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun
  • When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. 4 to 6 weeks before our average last frost date. Transplant 1 to 2 weeks before your average last frost date.
  • When to Sow Outside: 4 to 6 weeks before your average last frost date, or when soil temperature is at least 40°F, ideally 60°–85°F. Also in late summer for fall harvest.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds ⅛ inch deep
  • Seed Spacing: A group of 3 seeds every 24 inches
  • Row Spacing: 24-36 inches
  • Thinning: When 2" tall, thin to 1 every 24 inches
  • Days to Germinate: 7-14 days
  • Days to Maturity: 75 days

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: Harvest when florets are enlarged but still closed. This will encourage large numbers of side florets.
  • Variety Info: Plants produce a medium-sized, 4"–6" main head followed by smaller 1" side shoots.

"This is a beautiful garden store in Ft. Collins, Colo. This isn't a discount store but the quality of their plants and merchandise are good quality. We are a cactus/succulent family and we found some very healthy plants, some different than we have found previously. Large facility broken up into manageable rooms for browsing. The employees are there if you need them and the young man at the register was pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating. If you enjoy spending time at a nursery/garden store there is no reason not to enjoy the Bath Garden Center."
