Characteristics

Coffee plants are a unique and exotic addition to any home. Coffee plants are typically small to medium-sized shrubs with glossy, dark green leaves. The leaves are oval-shaped and can grow up to 6 inches long. They can produce fragrant white flowers, but this is rare in indoor settings. If your coffee plant does flower, the flowers will be followed by small red berries that contain the coffee beans.

How to Care for Coffee Plants

  • Light: Bright indirect/filtered light. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves. A south- or east-facing window is ideal.
  • Water Preferences: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. When you do water, water deeply until water runs out of the drainage holes.
  • Special Care/Notes: Use a well-draining potting mix and a pot that is one size larger than the current pot.
