Lake Valley Jubilee Improved Heirloom Watermelon Seeds

Large, elongated melons with sweet, juicy red flesh weigh up to 35 lbs. each. The perfect companion for summer picnics! Keep plants evenly moist throughout the growing season for best production. Allow enough space in your garden for watermelon vines to stretch!

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun
  • When to Start Inside: Start indoors three weeks before last spring frost date. Do not disturb tender roots when transplanting.
  • When to Sow Outside: Start outdoors about two weeks after the last spring frost, when soil has completely warmed.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds ½ inch deep.
  • Seed Spacing: 2–3 seeds per mound, 4-6 feet apart.
  • Thinning: When 3 leaves, thin to 1 plant per mound
  • Days to Germinate: 7-15 days
  • Days to Maturity: 95 days

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: It can be tricky to know exactly when a watermelon is ripe and ready to pick. First, know the number of "days to harvest" and begin checking fruits as the harvest date draws closer. Signs to look for are: (1) the bottom of the melon (where it lies on the soil) turns from light green to a yellowish color; (2) the surface color of the fruit turns dull; (3) the skin becomes resistant to penetration by the thumbnail and is rough to the touch; and (4) light green, curly tendril on the stem near the point of attachment of the melon is brown and dry. All of these indicators may not necessarily occur at the same time.
  • Attributes: Large, elongated melons with sweet, juicy red flesh weigh up to 35 lbs. each.

"No matter what I am at Bath for, there are always helpful employees to help me find what I need or tips on how to care for indoor or outdoor plants. They also carry pots, trellises, soil, and interesting plants of all kinds! I was also pleasantly surprised to find compost worms available for purchase without a special preorder. Thank you for being awesome!"

"This is a beautiful garden store in Ft. Collins, Colo. This isn't a discount store but the quality of their plants and merchandise are good quality. We are a cactus/succulent family and we found some very healthy plants, some different than we have found previously. Large facility broken up into manageable rooms for browsing. The employees are there if you need them and the young man at the register was pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating. If you enjoy spending time at a nursery/garden store there is no reason not to enjoy the Bath Garden Center."
