Lake Valley Heirloom Spicy Globe Basil Seeds

Spicy Globe is a delightful ornamental basil with finely cut leaves and an attractive mounding habit. Perfect as a border plant where its shape and texture can be used to highlight other flowering annuals.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting outside. Transplant when your nighttime temperatures are above 50°F.
  • When to Sow Outside: 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when the soil temperature is at least 60°F, ideally 65°–85°F. Successive Sowings: We recommend 3 or 4 successive sowings every 3 weeks after initial sowing.
  • Seed Depth: Plant seeds ¼ inch deep
  • Seed Spacing: A group of 2 seeds every 12 inches
  • Row Spacing: 12 inches
  • Thinning: When 2" tall, thin to 1 every 12 inches
  • Days to Germinate: 5-10 days
  • Days to Maturity: 80-90 days

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: Basil flavor is best before the plant flowers. Harvest up to 1/3 of the plant at a time, leaving enough for the plant to be healthy and keep producing. Harvest prior to a frost; basil is very frost-sensitive.
  • Attributes: Good for containers

"Super friendly staff and an amazing selection of flowers! All the flowers are really well cared for! There is a great atmosphere. I love walking around there!"

- Felix Leiter, April 2025

"They have so much fun stuff to look at even if you're not buying plants! They also have a cool deal where, if you buy the container and the plant, they'll plant it for you. There's clothes, kitchen stuff, kids stuff, books, nick snacks, etc. My mom and I go in just to hang out and look at stuff sometimes, but last time, I got this plant. It went from beautiful to MAMMOTH and beautiful. We named her Victoria."

- Lee R., July 2025

"Took the terrarium class & it was so much fun & the terrarium I made looks awesome in my home. Highly recommend taking this class!!"

- Laura Goeltl, November 2025
