Lake Valley Anise Heirloom Seeds

Sweetly flavored leaves and seeds. Produces umbels of tiny white flowers, followed by seeds that ripen in late summer. Very easy to grow. Use seeds in fruit salads, baking, soups and in potpourri. Leaves make an attractive and flavorful garnish.

Sowing Information:

  • Light: Full sun
  • When to Start Inside: Recommended. Sow indoors 8 weeks before last frost then transplant outside. Anise does not like cold temperatures.
  • When to Sow Outside: Plant in full sun in spring after soil has completely warmed. Anise does best in light soil with even water. Keep soil evenly moist and well-weeded while plants are young.
  • Seed Depth: 1/4 inch
  • Seed Spacing: A couple of seeds every inch
  • Thinning: When 3 inches tall, thin to 1 every 6 inches
  • Days to Emerge: 7-14 days
  • Days to Mature: 60 days

Growing Notes:

  • Harvesting: Leaves can be picked for garnish anytime. Harvest seed heads when they turn from green to grey green. Cut stems and place in an open sack to dry. Gently rub off seeds when completely dry.
  • Attributes: Annual

"Beautiful plants, gift selection."

- Cindy Nave, May 2024

"No matter what I am at Bath for, there are always helpful employees to help me find what I need or tips on how to care for indoor or outdoor plants. They also carry pots, trellises, soil, and interesting plants of all kinds! I was also pleasantly surprised to find compost worms available for purchase without a special preorder. Thank you for being awesome!"

- Erica Westcott, August 2025

"Great customer service.  Prices are high, but about the same as everywhere."

- Ron Lipka, December 2023
