Characteristics

The "Mermaid Tail Cactus" isn't a cactus! It's a succulent (Euphorbia Lactea) and the defining feature is its "mermaid tail" shape. This isn't a natural form but the result of a grafting technique. The Euphorbia Lactea stem is stimulated to grow in a flattened, wavy pattern, resembling the flowing fins of a mermaid. Colors range from green to blue-green, and it grows slowly in clusters. This plant has sap that can irritate skin and eyes, so wear gloves when handling and keep away from pets and children.

How to Care for Mermaid Tail Cactus

  • Light: Bright/filtered light or full sun at least 6 hours per day.
  • Water Preferences: Water thoroughly when the soil dries out completely. These succulents store water in their leaves and stems and are prone to rot if overwatered. Err on the side of underwatering.
  • Special Care/Notes: The Mermaid Tail Cactus is slow-growing and may not require repotting frequently. Repot only when the plant outgrows its current container.
